The Light That Doesn’t Ask Permission
There comes a moment when it grows more painful to stay curled up inside the bud than to risk the opening into bloom - as Elizabeth Appell once put it. Something of that truth is in the air these days.
This Full Moon on July 29, in the tropical sign of Aquarius, doesn’t stand alone. Jupiter is currently moving through the zodiac carrying a message that refuses to shrink: think big. This year, that message lands in Leo - which makes the question personal. Not ‘what can you achieve,’ but ‘do you dare to be seen while you’re doing it?’
1. Jupiter in Leo: The Grand Gesture
Jupiter is the planet of expansion, of the boundless ‘more’ - and wherever it travels, it asks us to think bigger than we’re used to. This year it does so in Leo, the sign of the Sun, of the heart, of inner sovereignty. Here, expansion isn’t about possessions or achievement, but about visibility: about how much space we allow ourselves to take up. Giving direction - to a family, a practice, a community, an idea - requires a certain trust that what we have to offer is allowed to be seen. Not because it’s perfect. Because it’s true.
Many of us learned that asking for attention is impolite, or dangerous, or simply ‘not for me.’ Jupiter in Leo gently but persistently argues otherwise, month after month.
The light doesn’t wait for permission - it waits for recognition.
2. The Moon Meets Pluto, Opposite the Sun
This Full Moon brings the Moon together with Pluto, directly opposite the Sun in Leo. Where Jupiter invites us, Pluto confronts us - it leaves no room for half-measures. In Jung’s language, we might say: the persona, the mask we wear toward the world, becomes transparent here. Not because we choose to lay it down, but because under this sky, it simply no longer fits.
That can feel unfamiliar. Being visible without a mask also means being visible with our shadow - with the parts of ourselves we’d rather keep below deck a little longer. But that is exactly the invitation - not toward perfection, but toward a kind of maturity that no longer asks for a role. Only for truth.

3. The Bucket: Uranus and Neptune Point the Way
Astrologers also know this pattern as a ‘bucket’ shape: a handle of planets that carries the weight of the rest of the chart and lifts it somewhere. Here, that bucket - that basket - is formed by sextiles between this Full Moon and both Uranus and Neptune, the two planets that reach furthest beyond the known.
That’s no coincidence. Aquarius has long been associated with Ganymede (seen at the head image), the cupbearer who hands the gods their nectar - not out of self-interest, but as the carrier of something larger than himself. This bucket asks for exactly that: visibility beyond the well-worn paths, generous leadership through breakthrough insight and creativity, a compassion that isn’t limited to one’s own circle but extends to all that lives. Not leadership as power. Leadership as the carrying of a dream that isn’t only our own.
The light doesn’t wait for permission - it waits for a basket brave enough to carry it.
In Closing
The planets aren’t scenery. They are archetypal forces that want to be lived - through us, in us, sometimes despite us. Anyone who looks a little into the reach of these slow-moving outer planets quickly arrives at the same conclusion: their scale exceeds our imagination. They don’t ask for our approval. They ask for our participation.
Perhaps that’s the heart of this Full Moon: releasing old beliefs about who we’re allowed to be, and truly - now - stepping into the spotlight. Not out of a need for validation, but from the recognition that our most authentic contribution is indispensable to collective wellbeing. The work, then, isn’t to keep feeding our longing for fleeting gratification, but to refine it - so that what remains is a light that shines, unadorned, from within. Not as the exception. As the norm.
