Symbols

I've been drawn to the world of the unseen ever since I can remember. Once I got to learn about the language of symbols, slowly but steadily I started to understand how one can read life's current and work with what sometimes seems hidden, if only we would pause to wonder..

The image above displays a meaningful bundle of symbols that can be read. Some of you may know this image as the center card of the famous Tarot deck by Rider Waite - Smith. I sure do! Even when we aren't familiar with this image and have never heard of this deck before, the symbols depicted can still be read and be valuable!

There are many ways to work with symbols and images. Over time cards and decks have been growing with us as a species. Just like the meaning of certain collective archetypes have been evolving. When we look at the decks changing over time, we can see the collective trends dominant at that time stand out. If you want to learn more about these insights and you read Dutch, I can recommend the book of Drs Karen Hamaker- Zondag: Tarot als Levensweg. You can find it here.

When we study Tarot to read current trends and look into the depth of our being, cards need to depict a certain quality that conveys a primal message. To me the Rider Waite - Smith Deck has always been most pleasant and effective. Apart from the quality of the artwork in the deck, we can read into the structure that unfolds in the cards as well. The Greater Arcana displays the psychological development in Human life, some call this the Path of Self Realization, Individuation or - The Heroes Journey - 22 cards, with ¨The Fool¨ at its center. The Lesser Arcana has of course great resemblance with the playing cards we still use today. There are four categories; Wands, Swords, Cups and Pentacles, all representing an element or realm of focus. Then there are the Numerological cycles throughout the deck, especially the cycles of 3 and 4 that can be read.

When receiving clients in my practice, we apply the cards as a compass to navigate trough the conversation. There a certain collective qualities which are usually supported by a personal component that is associated with the image depicted on the card. This always unfolds in to a beautiful bouquet of symbols that can be very meaningful to the experiencer. The Astrological craft and the reading of Tarot can support one and other, although both can be very valuable tools one their own. You can read about my astrology practice here, reviews on my practice in general can be read here. On my you tube page I have published a couple of ¨Tarot Snacks¨ - in short videos a couple of cards are featured. You can find a link to this page below.
